Since it's inception in 2006, danielle colding design, or dcdny, has taken on a wide variety of projects from high-end residential to distinctive commercial design projects both in the United States and abroad. danielle’s work has been published nationally and internationally, and she is a budding television personality and design expert. A frequent contributor to philanthropic efforts including the Ronald McDonald House and DIFFA, danielle is committed to both the design community and to giving back.

danielle colding's passion for design and all things beautiful began in early childhood where she spent countless hours designing and redesigning her childhood home with her mother. She comes from a legacy of people with a great "eye" for design. Many of the pieces featured in her own home were inherited from her stylish grandfather. And her mother embraced the global approach to design before it became en vogue decades later. danielle's childhood home stands as the greatest source of influence on her design style. Low-slung modern sectionals mixed with Haitian sculptures fused with traditional Tudor architecture in inventive ways. And the same reverence for tradition and modernism inspires danielle in the work she does.

danielle graduated from Stanford University with a degree in Cultural Anthropology and a Minor in African and African American Studies. The study of culture, and in particular, the way we choose to live in the world, has always been intriguing and a great influence on her approach to design. Inspired by world travels and open to new ways of thinking about how we live in the world is at the heart of the work she does.

With a degree in Interior design from FIDM, The Fashion Institute of Design and Merchandising in Los Angeles, she returned to her childhood home of New York City in 2002. Her first job was working, for several years, under the venerable design team Irvine & Fleming. That experience prepared her for the launch of her own company in 2006.

Winner of HGTV's Design Star in 2012, danielle enjoyed the amazing, roller coaster experience of bringing her approach to design to larger TV viewing public. Similarly, Shop This Room, danielle's show for winning Design Star, focused on showing home owners how to build distinctive, personalized spaces around objects or heirlooms they already loved in their homes. Another defining moment in her career, writing the foreward for AphroChic's book Remix: Decorating with Culture, Objects and Soul.

She resides with her husband and prized dog, Mia, in Brooklyn, NY.
